About
Pootis is a phrase attributed to the the Heavy Weapons Guy[1] from the online FPS game Team Fortress 2. It is a shortened version of the Heavy's voice command "Put dispenser here," which is used to request a Dispenser.[2] It has similar usage to GOTTAM and PINGAS. In 2020 a video titled Pootis Engage became notably popular, inspiring Pootis Engage Extreme in 2022.
Origin
On March 4th, 2010, YouTuber doctorheredoctor posted the earliest known "Pootis" video, entitled "GOTTAMPOOTIS." The post received more than 75,000 views in less than 11 years (shown below).
Spread
On August 1st, 2010, YouTube user "MisterLayton" uploaded a video titled "MEET THE POOTIS", which utilizes the original "Meet the Heavy"[3] video and replaces the dialogue with the edited version of the Heavy's Dispenser request quote. The video gained a small amount of attention, receiving 2,047 views as of April 2017 (shown below).
On September 22, 2011, YouTube user "Schmell85" uploaded a Garry's Mod animation video titled "Meet the Pootis", featuring the quote. This video gathered much more attention than the original and is regarded by many to be the original "Pootis" video. As of April 2017, the video has gained over 59,592 views. (shown below).
Since the "Meet the Pootis" video was uploaded, the phrase has featured heavily in various TF2 related content and videos. Various mash-up videos featuring the phrase have also been created, such as a What is Love? crossover video (shown below, right).
Pootis Engage
On June 4th, 2020, YouTuber ceno0 uploaded a ten-minute "Pootis"-themed video titled "POOTIS ENGAGE," gaining over 7.2 million views in roughly two years (shown below). In the video, which references several video game franchises including Dark Souls and Dead Space two Heavys take on a variety of terrorists.
Pootis Engage Extreme
On February 19th, 2022, YouTuber[4] ceno0 uploaded a 13-minute sequel to Pootis Engage titled "Pootis Engage // EXTREME," taking inspiration from anime and video game fight scenes (shown below). The video gained over 2.4 million views in under a month (shown below).
The video inspired reactions and videos referencing it over the following weeks. On February 22nd, YouTuber MHGR posted a reaction to the video, gaining over 80,000 views in a week (shown below, left). On February 25th, YouTuber Schpasm posted a video showing all the original references used in the video, gaining over 677,000 views in a comparable span of time (shown below, right).
Heavy Transcends
On February 19th, 2022, YouTuber SideBurns posted an edited clip from the 10:45 minute timestamp in the "Pootis Engage // EXTREME" video where Heavy reacts with growing enthusiasm to pairs of breasts, replacing the breasts with a green screen, gaining over 49,400 views in two weeks (shown below, original left, green screen right).
The format saw some used over the following weeks. On February 22nd, YouTuber Randos posted a meme where Heavy reacts to numerous Pokemon, gaining over 2,600 views in two weeks (shown below, left). On March 2nd, YouTuber MangoFoxy posted a version where he reacts to furries, gaining over 2,700 views in two days (shown below, right).

Pootis Status
Pootis Status refers to a series of Team Fortress 2 video edits where a clip from the Pootis video "Pootis Engage // EXTREME" is edited over an unrelated video clip in a bait-and-switch manner. The video titles always include the catchphrase "pootis status," a turn on the phrase "shitpost status." The trend began in October 2022 and is similar to the Revengeance Status meme.
