Spread

The image of Plimbo then received viral spread in the following days with an Imgur[1] post by user GilderoyPoptart on July 22nd, 2018, under the title "How it feels when people make me hold their baby" (seen below). The image received over 171,000 views and 4,100 upvotes in roughly three years.

On July 22nd, 2018, the image was reposted to Reddit's /r/hmmm[3], receiving roughly 17,000 upvotes while drawing comparisons to Pixar's Bao and, of course, the Pillsbury Dough Boy. On July 23rd, 2018, the image would circulate Facebook. [5] On August 13th, 2018,[6] verified Twitter user @PadmaLakshmi would post the image with her own caption (shown below) and receive roughly 1,300 likes.

On August 7th, 2021,[7] Twitter user @Banjocatt would post the image in a tweet (shown below), officially naming the doughboy, "Plimbo." The tweet gained a little over 80,000 likes over roughly four days.

Plimbo would go on to receive many mentions on Twitter in the days following, being remixed into other 2021 memes like Sigma Male. [8]
