Plash Speed refers to a viral South Korean animated short sketch in which a man attempts to replace his wireless router with a new PlayStation without his wife knowing. Throughout the video, the husband, his son, brother in law and the guy who "installs" the PlayStation attempt to convince the wife that the new PlayStation is a wireless router and the "PS" of the PlayStation logo stands for "Plash Speed," a hyper-fast new type of internet speed.

Origin

On June 20th, 2019, the YouTube channel 장삐쭈 posted the short, gaining over 5.8 million views in eight months (shown below).

Spread

On February 13th, 2020, the Facebook page Wayne Industry, aka Wayne_Winged_Angel[1] posted a translation of the sketch, helping bring it to an English-speaking audience. The video gained over 34,000 likes and reactions and 48,000 shares.


The video was covered by multiple blogs, including lowyat,[2] Soyasincau,[3] and asiaone.[4] The video also inspired some parodies. For example, Facebook page TechCritter[5] posted a picture of a real PlayStation made to look like a "Plash Speed" router (shown below, left). Asus Malaysia[6] also referenced the video in a post that gained over 2,100 likes and reactions (shown below, right).
