About

Pittsburgh Dumpster refers to a video of a trash receptacle shown floating in a flooded area of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Online, Twitter users joked about the clip by saying the trash can was other bad things one could call "trash" such as "me" or "my ex."

Origin

On May 16th, 2018, Twitter user Ken Rice tweeted the video of the dumpster floating in a flooded area of Pittsburgh[1] (shown below).


Spread

After the video was posted, Twitter users quote-tweeted Rice's tweet with jokes in which the dumpster represented various things. For example, user Maggie Serota quote-tweeted the video with the joke "Nice to see my ex finally getting back out there," gaining over 1,100 retweets (shown below, left). Twitter user Matt Ufford made a joke about Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger that gained over 2,400 retweets and 12,000 likes (shown below, right).



Some Twitter users used the video in remixes. For example, user @Benstonium mashed the video up with a scene from Castaway, gaining over 450 likes (shown below, left). Twitter page @OMGWTFBIBLE added the music from Curb Your Enthusiasm to the video, gaining 33 retweets and 160 likes (shown below, right)
