The Pinegrove Shuffle is a dance set to the song "Need 2" by the alt-country band Pinegrove in which participants repeatedly step forward and loosely extend their arms to their sides then step back to the beat of the song. The trend was started by TikToker @garrettlee39 in June 2023 and popularized on the app that month.
On June 9th, 2023, TikToker[1] @garrettlee39 posted a video in which he dances to the Pinegrove song "Need 2,"[2] garnering over 3.6 million views in three days (shown below).
The dance spread over the following days under the name "the Pinegrove shuffle" as other TikTokers posted videos doing the dance. On June 9th, 2023, TikToker[3] @mikeyslowey posted a duet to @garrettlee39's video, writing, "TikTok can we make this a thing? This was SO HARD in crocs," garnering over 330,000 views in three days (shown below, left). On June 10th, TikToker[4] @tatensmellgood posted a video of DJ Khaled dancing similarly set to the song, garnering over 800,000 views in two days (shown below, right).
On June 11th, TikToker[5] @bigpark445 posted a video doing the Pinegrove shuffle with friends at sunset, garnering over 900,000 views in a day (shown below). On the same day, TikToker[6] @tateconfer23 posted a video running into @garrettlee39 in public and getting him to do the dance, garnering over 1.2 million views in the same span of time.
