Pibble is an internet slang term for a French bulldog puppy, often pictured lying on its back with its belly up. The term "pibble" was originally used to mean "Pitbull" in the Doggo-Speak trend from the late 2010s. In 2023, the Handleheld Pupper / Geeble photo and its exploitable series went viral online, showing a baby French bulldog held in someone's hand. The image, and others like it, were later called "Pibble" in image macro and viral video memes on Instagram and TikTok. Some image caption memes from the time period nonsensically referred to the animal as "Gmail." An audio known as I Am Pibble, Wash My Belly also went viral on TikTok that year. The T-Pose Puppy is another notable Pibble image from meme history. In October 2025, a Pibble Death Rumor spread online.

Origin

The original definition of "Pibble" was a Doggo-Speak term for "pitbull." Its earliest known use on Twitter / X was in a tweet from the X^[2] account Hero the Pibble (@hero_the_pibble) on August 3rd, 2008.

The term was used for pitbulls heading into the late 2010s. For instance, it was used by the Facebook ^[3] account Marvel the Super Hero Pibble as early as February 28th, 2014.

The earliest photo tagged with "pibble" in the Know Your Meme ^[1] database was shared by user kkduer on March 14th, 2014.

The first viral tweet to use the word was shared by actor Patrick Stewart on his X^[4] account @SirPatStew on March 9th, 2017. It was used to caption a video of his "foster pibble Ginger," gaining over 14,000 likes in eight years.

"Pibble," as used to describe a baby French bulldog, didn't surface until 2023, coinciding with the rise of Instagram user @pibble12, who shared their first Instagram^[5] post on August 10th, 2023, gaining over 4,200 likes in two years.

The post showed the Handheld Pupper photo of a French bulldog puppy being held in someone's hand, which was first posted on Instagram^[6] as a Reel from @813_frenchies_ on October 17th, 2022.

Later on August 10th, Instagram^[7] user @pibble12 shared a series of Pibble images in a slideshow, writing in the description, "Here is the pibble starting roster." Over two years, the post received over 130 likes.

Spread

In the following months, @pibble12 continued to share photos and memes of Pibbles, sourcing many of the videos and photos of baby French bulldogs from Instagram^[8] user @jmarcoz, a French bulldog breeder.

For instance, on June 2nd, 2024, Instagram^[9] user @pibble12 first gained notable engagement with a Reel, sourced from @jmarcoz, showing two Pibbles playing. The added text overlay caption referenced the Freaky and Papyrus Irony memes, reading, "Pibble eating fake Gmails because Gmail is a white pibble with black spots and not freaky with papyrus font like grow up duden." The video received over 56,200 likes in a year.

On August 12th, TikToker^[10] @jpibblemafia shared a Soft Irony video meme with a Papyrus font text caption, reading, "Gmail, you naughty pibble, come back." Over one year, the video received roughly 252,600 likes.

Pibble memes continued to surface on TikTok and Instagram heading into 2025. For instance, on June 25th, 2025, TikToker^[11] @leakyscrotum shared a video that followed the "What Kind of X is This?" format, in which the AI voices initially say, "What kind of Pibble is this? / This is Gmail." Over four months, the video received over 220,500 likes.

Handheld Pupper, also known as Geeble, refers to a photograph of a minuscule French bulldog puppy being held in one hand. Online, the image saw virality in early 2023, often being used as an exploitable for various memes. The photo became the initial subject of Alienposting / Zeep Glorp memes that year, in which the puppy was crudely edited green and given antennas. The image also started the use of the term Pibble.

T-Pose Puppy / STOP FIGHTING!!!

T-Pose Puppy also known as STOP FIGHTING!! refers to a series of image macro and exploitable memes featuring a small pot-bellied and cross-eyed French bulldog puppy, called a Pibble, doing the T-Pose. The image of the puppy being held up by one hand began making the rounds in May 2024, with captioned and edited versions of the image going viral on Twitter / X in July 2024. The meme is similar to Jotchua memes that feature meme edits of small puppies.

I Am Pibble, Wash My Belly

I Am Pibble, Wash My Belly, also known as I Am Pibble, Wash Ma Belly, refers to a viral TikTok audio of a cute, baby voice saying, "I am Pibble, wash my belly." The original sound was created in April 2025. Variants of the sound, which remixed it with different songs and audios, surfaced in the following months, such as "Wash My Belly, Yay" and "Clean My Belly."

Pibble Death Rumor

Pibble Death and Pibble is Dead refers to an internet rumor that Pibble, the French bulldog puppy, passed away. The idea that Pibble the dog was dead spread in viral memes and posts on Instagram Reels and TikTok in October 2025. Pibble was not dead, though, because "Pibble" broadly refers to any image of a "Frenchie" puppy. Also, the creator of the Pibble meme, @pibble12 on Instagram, confirmed that the dog in the original Pibble photo, known as the Handheld Pupper, did not die, per new photos and videos shared by the dog's owner on Instagram.
