Phone Swiping Patterns refers to an exploitable four-panel image in which the thumb patterns on a smart phone when using certain apps are represented by lines and dots. The fourth image represents a humorous activity represented by a thumb pattern one understands if they regularly perform the action the fourth panel represents.
Origin
On March 8th, 2019, Reddit user RealMediaMind posted the first example of the meme to /r/PewDiePieSubmissions,[1] making a Press F to Pay Respects joke and gaining over 15,000 points (shown below).
Spread
Later that day, the same post was posted to /r/memes, where it gained over 14,000 views.[2] Over the following days, the format spread to other subreddits. On March 10th, Redditor unicorn446[3] posted an example meant to make fun of normies to /r/dankmemes, gaining over 16,000 points (shown below, left). User Finnstaa made a post in /r/ApexLegends about Mozambique memes, gaining over 3,400 points (shown below, right).
