Peter The Horse Is Here or Petah The Horse Is Here refers to a creepy sound effect from Family Guy where Lois Griffin tells Peter Griffin that "the horse is here" during family dinner. The trend started in mid-2021 on YouTube when meme creators added a long pause between Lois' words and added sound effects for Peter's response. In late 2021, a meme creator on TikTok added Five Nights at Freddy's ambiance music to the audio that later became a trending TikTok sound in 2022. Additionally, YouTuber and Twitch streamer Jimmy Here referenced the meme in one of his "If I Laugh, The Video Ends" challenges in 2022.

Origin

On March 8th, 2009, the eighth episode of Family Guy's season seven aired on American television titled, "Family Gay." ^[1] In the episode, Peter buys a "retarded racehorse" named 'Til Death at an auction in Louisville, Kentucky.^[2] Within the first few minutes of the episode, the horse enters the dining room while the Griffins are eating dinner, prompting Lois, who's made uncomfortable by the horse, to say, "Peter, the horse is here" (shown below).

On July 16th, 2021, YouTuber^[3] ripper uploaded a moldy and low-quality version of the clip, adding in a longer pause between Lois' words as well as editing Peter to lip dub a tickle/tip-toe sound effect.^[4] Over the course of one year, the video received roughly 135,600 views (shown below).

Spread

On August 9th, 2021, YouTuber EnchantedIDK uploaded the first-known variant of the meme, replacing the sound Peter makes at the end with the guy getting kicked out of Walmart video. It received roughly 4,200 views in one year (shown below, left). On November 16th, 2021, YouTuber Wood Man posted a creepier iteration, earning roughly 15,400 views in nine months (shown below, right).

On November 11th, 2021, TikToker^[5] dominical.mp4 reposted ripper's YouTube video to TikTok, however, they added in the "Sitting idle" ambiance sound effect^[6] from the video game Five Nights at Freddy's. Over the course of nine months, the video received roughly 292,100 plays and 46,700 likes (shown below).

More iterations continued to surface on YouTube going into 2022. For instance, on April 3rd, 2022, YouTuber Memetastic posted an iteration that used the FNAF ambiance sound and had Peter shout "Fuck you!" at the end. The video received roughly 149,500 views in five months (shown below).

On April 27th, 2022, YouTuber and Twitch streamer Jimmy Here uploaded one of his "If I Laugh, The Video Ends" challenges that received roughly 1.7 million views over the course of five months. He originally live-streamed it days earlier. At the 9:29-minute mark, Jimmy said, "Peter, the horse is here," in his best Lois impression (shown below, left). Three days prior to its YouTube upload, on April 24th, 2022, YouTuber BluSolariz88 used Jimmy's voice to make their own iteration, earning roughly 77,000 views in five months (shown below, right).

In July 2022, the sound was used en masse on TikTok once more. On July 31st, 2022, TikToker^[7] lauren_mlz posted the ambient FNAF iteration with DoodleBob sound effects, earning roughly 2.6 million plays and 418,400 likes in three weeks (shown below, left). Many TikTokers used lauren_mlz's sound gong into August 2022. For instance, on August 4th, 2022, TikToker^[8] sorryimannaka earned roughly 4.8 million plays and 1.2 million likes in three weeks for using the sound to demonstrate being abandoned in an asylum (shown below, right).
