About

Peter I Told You or Cloud Visits Peter is an exploitable image macro that features a picture of the character Cloud Strife from FFVII visiting Peter Griffin from Family Guy in a hospital bed to make a humorous reference about something that is either dangerous or unadvised. Though the image was originally intended to be used as an NFT art piece, it was popularized in early-to-mid-2021 in memes that added various captions.

Origin

On March 6th, 2021, animator Bodko posted the original image to Twitter, titling it "Cloud visits Peter" (shown below), and later released a T-shirt with the design on it after the tweet began garnering attention. On March 23rd, Bodko then minted the image, turning it into an NFT[1] for sale.

On March 10th, 2021, Twitter user @Martinbsss[2] posted the first example of the image used as a meme format, with a joke about a pig's scientific name (shown below), though it did not receive a large amount of engagement.

Spread

The meme spread in the following months to other platforms, such as Reddit. For example, on April 3rd, 2021, it was then posted to the subreddit /r/memetemplatesofficial by Redditor[3] Spearmph, who made a joke about what topics to avoid talking about on the subreddit /r/nintendoswitch, earning 6,150 upvotes in six months (shown below).

On June 15th, 2021, Tumblr[4] user wohoho-przechyly posted a version of the meme that used a purple deep-fried filter over the image while making a reference to They/Them pronouns (shown below).
