Peter Griffin With Ariana Grande is a ship pairing and series of memes pairing Family Guy protagonist Peter Griffin with pop artist Ariana Grande. The earliest known example of the meme was posted to Reddit in 2019 and depicts Peter and Ariana walking through a Minecraft world together. Depictions of the two together became increasingly popular throughout 2023, including in late November and early December when it was announced that Peter Griffin would join Fortnite, since Ariana Grande also has a skin in the game.

Origin

On August 19th, 2019, u/Asad_OG posted a piece of artwork to /r/ariheads^[1] depicting Peter Griffin walking hand-in-hand with Ariana Grande through a Minecraft world, garnering over 180 upvotes in four years (shown below). It is unclear if this is the true original post, but is the earliest known post.

Spread

The image gained viral spread through reposts. On September 5th, 2019, X^[2] user @damn_lui posted the image under the caption, "this is how pretty girls look dating their ugly ass boyfriend," garnering over 4,100 likes in four years (shown below, left). The post was screenshotted and reposted to /r/absolutelynotme_irl^[3] on September 6th, garnering over 14,000 upvotes in the same span of time. On October 23rd, 2022, X^[4] user @reactjpg posted a photoshop of Peter and Ariana making duck faces in a photo booth, garnering over 200 likes in a year.

On May 31st, 2023, X^[5] user @yassnito quote-reposted a post by @billboard reading, "Ariana Grande’s R.E.M. Beauty Is Officially PETA-Approved" with the image, writing, "well yes!" garnering over 71,000 likes in seven months (shown below, right).

On October 22nd, X^[6] user @HeyyHolls posted a similar piece of art showing Peter and someone who might be Ariana walking hand-in-hand at sunset captioned, "me and the guy i met on twitter," garnering over 1,200 likes in two months (shown below). On October 28th, X^[7] user @jmbynx posted the art, writing, "Albanian couples be like," garnering over 1,100 likes in a similar span of time.

Another similar yet original piece of artwork was posted to /r/familyguy^[8] by u/T4NJ1M on October 30th, garnering around 118 upvotes in just over a month. It is unclear if this poster created the artwork. On November 20th, u/jujuflytrap posted a meme depicting Peter comforting a crying Ariana on the Family Guy couch to /r/popheadscirclejerk,^[9] garnering over 1,400 upvotes in two weeks (shown below). It was reposted to /r/rupaulsdragrace^[10] on November 21st, garnering over 650 upvotes in the same span of time.

The meme gained further viral spread over the following days through reposts. On November 23rd, it was posted by X^[11] user @OrganizerMemes with the caption, "What moment in politics had you like this," garnering over 1,000 reposts in two weeks.

On December 1st, it was revealed that Peter would get a skin in Fortnite_. That day, X^[12] user @M1dasOW2 posted it, writing, "can someone recreate this in fortnite next season," garnering over 134,000 likes in six days. On December 2nd, X^[13] user @ABaldy64 posted a meme depicting Peter carrying Ariana to safety, garnering over 14,000 likes in five days (shown below, left). On December 3rd, X^[14] user @cooIboobs posted a compilation of Peter and Ariana memes, writing, "in every universe, they loved each other," garnering over 65,000 likes in four days (shown below, right).

On December 6th, X^[15] user @jennkittymeowww posted a recreation of the meme of Peter comforting Ariana on the couch, writing, "i never thought in a million years i’d be able to do this in fortnite," garnering over 180,000 like in a day (shown below).
