Virginia Fonseca is a Brazilian digital influencer, YouTuber and businesswoman. She is known for her beauty content and popularizing many TikTok dance trends. The influencer became the subject of memes in March 2023 when she released a makeup line that was not appreciated by her followers.

History

Virginia Pimenta Fonseca Serrão[1] is a Brazilian-American digital influencer born in Connecticut on April 6th, 1999. She joined YouTube[2] on April 26th, 2016, posting her first video a day later explaining what content her followers will find on the channel. The video (seen below) garnered 2.6 million views and 206,000 likes in six years.

Online Presence

The Brazilian influencer, who already had millions of followers on Instagram[3] and TikTok,[4] saw an increase in her engagement after marrying the Brazilian singer Zé Felipe[5] in 2021. In addition to participating in her husband's music videos, Virginia also creates dance trends that helped some of the songs go viral in Brazil. For instance, the music "Toma Toma Vapo Vapo"[6] by Zé Felipe and MC Danny accumulated 710,700 videos on TikTok, and most of the content shows people doing a dance trend created by Fonseca on November 11th, 2021. Her TikTok[7] received (seen below) garnered 12 million plays and 955,000 likes in two years.

Virginia became known as the marketing girl for her husband's music. For example, on January 29th, 2022, the singer Zé Felipe release the song "Malvada" featuring his wife doing a dance choreography, which later became a dance trend on TikTok, inspiring 766,300 videos to be uploaded on the platform. The music video posted on YouTube[8] received 294 million plays and 2.2 million likes (seen below).

Virginia's Foundation Makeup Controversy

On March 5th, 2023, the Brazilian influencer was a trending topic on social media after the release of her foundation makeup line. The product, by WePink, the influencer's beauty brand, received bad reviews from other beauty influencers, like Karen Bachini's 1-hour-long video testing the product. The review, posted on YouTube[9] on March 9th, received 2 million views and 219,000 likes in one week. After that, Bachini also posted on her TikTok[10] account a video listing "19 reasons not to buy Virginia's foundation." The video (seen below) garnered 10 million plays and 646,000 likes in four days.

Virginia's foundation reviews became a viral topic on Twitter,[11] inspiring memes like the one @emobrasileiro posted on March 10th, 2023. The tweet's (seen below) caption in Portuguese explains how the beauty influencer Karen Bachini reviewed the foundation. The post garnered 602,400 views and 5,400 likes in five days.
