TwinsTheNewTrend is the YouTube channel of Tim and Fred Williams,
brothers from Gary, Indiana, who began growing popular in the summer of 2020 thanks to several videos going viral in which they gave reactions to their first time hearing famous popular songs, such as "Jolene" by Dolly Parton and "In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins.

History

Brothers Tim and Fred Williams of Gary, Indiana[1] launched TwinsTheNewTrend on October 29th, 2015.[2] The earliest extant video on their channel, posted on August 12th, 2017, has over 11,000 views (shown below, left). For the following several years, the channel focused mainly on Tim's reactions to hip-hop and prank videos but rarely gained more than 2,000 views on a video. In late 2019, the channel began to post reaction videos to rock and pop music, which attracted more views. On September 2nd, Tim posted a reaction to Aerosmith's "Dream On," which the title claims is the "first rock song" Tim listened to, gaining over 690,000 views (shown below, right). Over the next two months, the channel continued to mainly consist of Tim reacting to hip-hop, rock, metal, and pop music videos, with the rock and pop videos gaining the most views. In November of 2019, Tim's brother Fred began to regularly appear in the channel's videos.


Viral Fame

On June 18th, 2020, the pair uploaded a reaction to their first listen of Dolly Parton's "Jolene," their first video to crack a million views (shown below, top). As of August 9th, 2020, the video has over 2.5 million views. On June 30th, the pair was written about in the New York Post.[4] On August 6th, 2020, Twitter user @tprstly reposted a video of the pair listening to Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight," gaining over 63,000 retweets and 291,000 likes, bringing the pair viral fame (shown below, bottom).



The pair began to trend on Twitter following the repost of their "In the Air Tonight" video. On August 7th, 2020, Dolly Parton[3] reposted their "Jolene" video, gaining over 1,900 retweets and 13,000 likes (shown below, left). User @TravisAkers[5] reposted their "In the Air Tonight" video, gaining over 4,000 retweets and 21,000 likes (shown below, right).


After the Twitter popularity of the pair began to soar, multiple outlets covered TwinsIstheNewTrend, including Vice,[1] Relevant Magazine[6] and Vulture.[7]

As of August 9th, 2020, the channel has over 200,000 subscribers.[2]
