Timmy Thick the pseudonym of a male social media personality who amassed a following posting effeminate selfies on Instagram as well as raunchy content which resulted in the account being banned several times. He also gained a large following on Twitter. In March of 2018, the account announced on Twitter that the persona was a social experiment conducted by a student at Harvard.

History

Timmy Thick began posting on Instagram in 2016 as TIMMYTHEBARBIE.[1][2] He amassed a following by posting pictures of himself looking effeminate, wearing women's clothes and posing in feminine positions (examples shown below).


In the course of two years, Timmy Thick had Instagram accounts banned several times for raunchy content but was able to quickly amass thousands of followers after starting fresh accounts[2] without significantly changing his content. As of March 19th, 2018, his active Instagram account[3] has over 35,000 followers and his Twitter[4] has over 38,000 followers. It is claimed he associates with other social media stars Danielle Bregoli and Ugly God.[1][2] According to Heightline, "inconclusive sources" place his internet net worth at $30,000 and his annual salary from social media use at $15,000. No personal information, such as his background or real name, is known about Thick beyond his birthday.[2] On March 15th, 2017, YouTuber loveliveserve posted a video about Timmy Thick, gaining over 1.5 million views (shown below).


Thick has four different submitted definitions on Urban Dictionary ranging from people mocking him to people supporting him for being himself.[5]

Harvard Social Experiment Tweet

On March 17th, 2018, the Timmy Thick Twitter account tweeted, "Good Evening, “timmythick” was a 24 month sociological study conducted by Harvard University. We are now complete with our study. Thank you for your time."[6] The tweet gained over 30,000 retweets and 80,000 likes.

In a since-deleted tweet, Brandon Wardell appeared to corroborate the tweet, saying he'd known about it for a year and that Timmy Thick was a head writer at Harvard's satirical newspaper, the Harvard Lampoon (shown below).

The online reaction to the announcement mostly included people shocked at the prank. Popular tweets reacting to the news include one by @guwop that gained over 200 retweets (shown below, left) and one by @BBWslayer666 that gained over 230 retweets (shown below, right).
