Overview
Shower Food Reviews is a series of tweets by Gazpachomachine where he reviews different foods in the shower, rating how enjoyable and practical the food is to eat while taking a shower. Gaspachomachine began the series in December 2022 and continued to post shower food reviews over the following months, becoming increasingly popular and inspiring reactions, memes and garnering media attention in early 2023.
Online History
On December 6th, 2022, Twitter[1] user @gazpachomachine posted a photo of himself eating a pistachio ice cream bar, announcing the start of his "shower food reviews" series, writing that the ice cream bar is "pretty good to eat in shower. Stick makes it portable & keeps things clean. Tastes just as good as if I ate it not in shower. Contrast between hot shower & cold ice cream is also nice," garnering over 120 likes in five months (shown below).
Over the following months, gazpachomachine continued to post shower food reviews, some gaining notable traction. On December 9th, he posted a photo to Twitter[2] of a Taco Bell taco that he dropped in the shower, garnering over 1,000 likes in five months. On March 27th, 2023, he posted a review of a shower burger to Twitter,[3] garnering over 5,000 likes in just over a month (shown below, left). On April 3rd, he posted a review of a tomahawk ribeye to Twitter,[4] garnering over 27,800 likes in a month (shown below, right).
On April 25th, he posted his 37th review to Twitter,[5] reviewing cotton candy, garnering over 265,000 likes in a week (shown below, left). On May 2nd, he posted a review for a giant sour gummy worm to Twitter,[6] garnering over 184,000 likes in three days (shown below, right).
Online Presence
As the shower food reviews series became increasingly popular, fans began creating memes referencing the content. On April 8th, Twitter[7] user @Lyralura_ posted a meme about his tomahawk steak review, garnering over 450 likes in a month (shown below, left). On April 28th, Twitter[8] user @mrmatthouse posted a Bush learning about 911 meme referencing gazpachomachine dropping a plate in the shower, garnering over 4,500 likes in a week (shown below, right).
On April 28th, Upworthy[9] posted a collection of shower food reviews tweets. On May 4th, the New York Post[10] published an interview with gazpachomachine about the shower food reviews series.
