Saxsquatch, also known as Bigfoot Plays Saxophone, is an American musician and content creator called "Saxsquatch" who plays saxophone while dressed in a Bigfoot or sasquatch costume. Since beginning in late 2019, the creator has played covers of famous songs like "Hotel California," "La Vie En Rose" and many others, several of which have gone viral on social media. The viral videos from Saxsquatch have also been used as exploitables for various memes and overlay text jokes since early February 2021.
History
On August 26th, 2019, YouTuber[1] and musician Saxsquatch uploaded a video performing his song "When Sunny Gets Blue." The creator is seen playing the saxophone while dressed as Bigfoot (shown below), which amassed over 11,000 views and 467 likes in four years.
The musician went on to post several other covers while dressed as Bigfoot. For instance, on April 29th, 2020, he posted[2] a cover of Daft Punk's "One More Time," performed in the middle of the woods in his Bigfoot costume (shown below, left), which amassed more than 2.7 million views and 200,000 likes in three years.
On April 28th, 2020, Saxsquatch uploaded a cover[3] of Men At Work's "Who Can It Be Now?" while in the woods (shown below, right), which garnered roughly 396,000 views and 45,000 likes in three years.
Online Presence
Saxsquatch's videos playing the saxophone have become the subject of memes, particularly in the early 2020s. For example, on September 5th, 2023, TikTok[4] user @eae_rocha7 posted Saxsquatch's video playing Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" on the saxophone (shown below, left) paired with the overlay text in Portuguese "Ter um relacionamento aberto ou virar um gorila saxofonista?," which translates to "Having an open relationship or turning into a gorilla playing saxophone?" The post amassed over 1.8 million plays and 395,000 likes in four months.
On July 31st, 2023, TikTok[5] user @sergio_333_xd03 posted Saxsquatch's clip playing the same cover paired with the overlay text in Spanish "¿Acabar con el hambre en el mundo o ser mono saxofonista?," which translates to "End world hunger or be a saxophonist monkey?" The post received roughly 3,400 plays and 337 likes in five months.
