Ryan Is Driving is a YouTube channel created by an Uber driver named Ryan who films conversations he has with his passengers.
Online History
On January 23rd, 2016, Ryan Is Driving joined YouTube and has gained over 830,000 followers in three years. His first video features a night a driving passengers in his UBER (shown below). The video has gained over 542,000 views and 8,400 likes in three years.
On February 22nd, 2018, he uploaded his most popular video entitled, "Woman Tries to Get a Free Ride" which accumulated over 23.4 million views and 678,000 likes in a year. In the video a passenger "cancels" her UBER ride while Ryan is already driving her in attempt to get a free ride and Ryan argues with her (shown below, left). That video was followed up on March 10th, with a video entitled "How to Actually Get a Free Ride" (shown below, right). The video gained over 4.4 million views and 115,000 likes in a year.
Fired from UBER
Late September 2018, UBER added a third paragraph to their camera policy prohibiting the use of personal videos to be posted online (shown below, left).[4] On May 2nd, 2019, Ryan Is Driving uploaded a video explaining that he was fired because of the policy (shown below, right). The video gained over 281,400 views in a day. Ryan received consent from all of his passengers before uploading his YouTube videos. In the video, Ryan remained positive and thankful for the time he had as an UBER driver.
Reputation
Ryan is known as a positive and entertaining YouTuber. Twitter users have gone out of their way to thank him for his videos. On March 13, 2018, @helloemilyurban[1] tweeted "Discovered @Ryan_Is_Driving a couple weeks ago, 10/10 recommend. Binge-watched the videos because people are incredibly fascinating, beautiful, and messed up. I appreciate the way you see them. makes me want to take up uber. also, your music tastes are dope, keep it up 👌 :)" (shown below, left). The tweet gained 66 likes in a year. After Ryan was fired from UBER, Twitter user @paperflwrs[2] tweeted, "Been following your videos for a reaaaaally long time man. Just wanted to say thanks for putting in the hours/days/weeks of editing because they always brightened my day. I hope you can enjoy a deserved break for a little while" (shown below, right).
Personal Life
As of May 2019, Ryan is 26 years old and lives in Charleston, South Carolina.[3]
