May 2024 Drowning Controversy
On May 29th, 2024, a clip from Reynolds' Kick stream where she purportedly dares a "vulnerable" woman to jump in a lake for $20 went viral, including in a post to /r/PublicFreakout[10] that day that garnered over 14,000 upvotes in two days. The woman jumps in and Reynolds denies that she told her to jump. She then starts leaving the scene and the woman yells for help, saying that she "can't swim." Reynolds does not do anything to help the woman, even as she claims to be drowning. Instead, Reynolds leaves the scene with her friends, who keep reiterating to her how bad the situation is. Later in the stream, as she and her friends drive off, a firetruck is seen passing by them, assumedly heading to help the woman in the lake. The post gained over 21,000 likes in a day (shown below).
The stream took place a day earlier on May 29th, 2024. That day, the @AustinFireInfo X[11] page reported that they were heading to an incident at Lady Bird Lake in Texas, writing, "The person is out of the water and the incident has been downgraded to a medical call." This post was purportedly made in relation to the incident. Some have claimed that the woman who jumped into the lake was homeless, although this is unconfirmed.
