About
Madeon is the stage name of Hugo Leclercq, a French electronic music producer who initially garnered popularity through his viral video and mashup "Pop Culture" before eventually seeing major success with an EP, a 2015 debut album, and the collaborative single Shelter with producer Porter Robinson.
History
Madeon initially garnered notability for winning a remix competition for the song "The Island" by drum and bass band Pendulum.[1] He would later go on to create remixes for artists such as Deadmau5, Alphabeat, and Yelle, alongside original work with songs such as "For You" and "Shuriken". Prior to that, he produced under a number of aliases such as Wayne Mont and Deamon.
After signing onto Columbia Records following the attention gained from his viral "Pop Culture" mashup, he would release an EP preceded by semi-successful singles "Icarus", "Finale", and "The City" in 2012, and his debut album Adventure in 2015 featuring appearances from Dan Smith of Bastille, Passion Pit, and Mark Foster of Foster the People. He would also provide additional production work for artists such as Lady Gaga, Coldplay, and Ellie Goulding.
Pop Culture
In 2011 at the age of 17, Madeon uploaded "Pop Culture" to Youtube, featuring a live mashup of 39 different songs put together using a Novation Launchpad, that would gain over 40 million views in the next 7 years (shown below).
