Kobo Kanaeru is a VTuber that is a part of the 3rd generation of the Indonesian division of the Hololive agency. Along with Vestia Zeta and Kaela Kovalskia. Kobo is known from her interactions with viewers and other VTubers online.

History

On March 27th, 2022, Kobo Kanaeru posted her debut stream on her official YouTube^[1] account. In the video, she introduced herself while chatting with her viewers, discussing her fan name, hashtag usage for the fan art, etc. The video received more than 1.5 million views in one year (shown below).

Online Presence

On the same day as her debut, Kanaeru uploaded her debut song "Mantra Hujan,"^[2] receiving over 9.7 million views in one year (shown below).

Aside from streaming, Kobo has grown notable for interacting with other VTubers. For example, on June 17th, 2022, Kobo uploaded a tweet^[3] saying she accidentally stole fellow VTuber Renie's spoon after she visited her house. The tweet received 154 retweets and more than 5,100 likes in one year (shown below).

On June 20th, 2022, Twitter^[4] user @Iroproject71 uploaded a webcomic about Kobo visiting other VTubers and asking them for things such as Ollie's pink mouse, Renie's electric guitar, Moona's microphone, and Iofifteen's savings. The tweet received 549 retweets and more than 4,600 likes in one year (shown below).

Kobo's Camera Drop

On February 11th, 2023, Kobo live-streamed herself making sushi. During the stream, her camera became unstable and pointed toward her body. The livestream suddenly ended after that. On the same day, Facebook^[5] user Daffa Lana uploaded clip seconds before it happened (shown below).

The same day, Facebook^[6] user Kenn Deimne uploaded a Saruman Magically Summoned edit about the event. The post received 480 reactions and 552 shares in one month (shown below).

The event also spawned 'fan art' of her. For example on February 16th, 2023, Twitter^[7] user @sm0lkies uploaded 'fan art' of Kobo wearing the same clothing as was shown in her livestream. The tweet received 274 retweets and more than 3,100 likes in one month (shown below, left). On the next day, Twitter^[8] user @AyaaMikaru uploaded similar fan art that received 130 retweets and more than 2,900 likes in one month (shown below, right).

Kobo Playing Hogwarts Legacy

On March 5th, 2023, Kobo uploaded a tweet^[9] about her planning to play Hogwarts Legacy. The tweet received more than 825 retweets and 11,200 likes in three weeks (shown below).

The same day, Facebook^[10] user Udin Ojisan uploaded a screenshot from Kobo's replies that showed several Twitter user accusing Kobo of being transphobic because she was playing the controversial game (shown below).

VTuber Pikamee allegedly retired after receiving hate for playing Hogwards Legacy, and fearing Kobo might face similar backlash, her fans began a campaign pledging to protect her. For example, on March 5th, 2023, Twitter^[11] user @KomodoDragon977 uploaded a tweet about he was ready to fight against SJWs. The tweet received 498 likes (shown below, left). The same day, Twitter^[12] user @hana3ru uploaded a tweet telling people to line up to defend Kobo. The tweet received more than 1,223 likes (shown below, right).

On March 6th, 2023, Facebook^[13] user Daffa Nier Yonah Stanwood uploaded a screenshot showing a compilation tweets from people who want to protect Kobo to the "Sisi Lain Vtuber" group (shown below).
