Kevin Carpet, also known as New York City's Carpet Guy or NYC Carpet Guys, is a notable personality recognized for lying on the ground around New York City sidewalks and other venues, disguising himself in carpeting, hoping people will step on him. Another personality with a similar fetish, Georgio, The Human Carpet, also roams the streets and nightclubs in NYC in the hopes of people stepping on him. Mentions about Kevin Carpet started in early January 2019 on Twitter / X, gaining virality on TikTok in January 2025, as people in New York City posted videos of carpets across the town, claiming a man is hidden inside waiting for people to step on him.

History

The earliest online mention of Kevin Carpet was made in a special article written by Krik Semple for The New York Times[3] on June 15th, 2009. In the article, Semple writes about a man who walks into a bar carrying a carpet under his arm and "wraps himself in the carpet, lies on the floor, covers his face and waits for people to step on him." The man, identified as Georgio T., an immigrant from Malta, explains he discovered his predilection when "he was a young child, he said. 'I loved to have weights on me,'" he told the reporter.

On January 13th, 2019, X[1] user @dances made the earliest known mention on social media about NYC's carpet guys, claiming that two men in the early 2000s would appear at parties in New York City and "roll themselves in carpets under the bar so people could step on." The user[2] also shared some pictures from MySpace of the two men, identified as "Georgio and Kevin the human carpet," which received roughly 30 likes in six years (seen below).



On October 17th, 2022, The Cut,[4] an online publication owned by New York magazine, posted an article focused on Kevin Carpet, explaining that for several times a week now since the 1980s, he "lies down on the sticky floors of New York clubs and positions himself so that people can stand on him."

On January 5th, 2025, TikToker[5] @perezbrenna posted a video about NYC's carpet guys and their purported feud. The video (seen below) gained roughly 238,000 plays and 36,000 likes in five months.

On May 5th, 2025, Kevin Carpet was mentioned in a video of TikToker[6] @paretay, spotting the man hidden under the sidewalk while people unknowingly step on him. The video (seen below) amassed more than 3 million plays and 250,000 likes in two days.
