Jenna Marie Ortega is an American actress who achieved viral popularity online in November 2022 following the premiere of the Wednesday comedy horror series in which she portrays Wednesday Addams of the Addams Family. Online, Ortega became generally recognized as the "it girl" and achieved a massive following, with users dedicating fancams and other content to her.

Online History

Jenna Ortega began her career as a child actress, making her debut in 2012 in an episode of the sitcom television series Rob.^[1] From 2016 to 2018, Jenna Ortega starred in a lead role on Stuck in the Middle, a Disney Channel sitcom.

In 2019, Ortega starred as Ellie Alves on the second season of the Netflix thriller series You, followed by a string of roles in horror films, including The Babysitter: Killer Queen, Scream (2020) and Scream (2022). In 2022, Ortega starred in the high-school drama film The Fallout (trailer shown below).

On November 23rd, 2022, the comedy horror coming-of-age series Wednesday, featuring Jenna Ortega premiered on Netflix.^[2] In the series, Ortega portrays the titular character Wednesday Addams, a cold and unemotional teenage girl born into a wealthy but odd family of aristocrats, who starts education at a new school for social outcasts (trailer and the "Wednesday Dance" scene shown below, left and right).

The virality of the series in late November 2022 cast Ortega into the spotlight, with the actress amassing a large following on all platforms and users sharing memes, fancams, fan art and hornyposting about her. For example, within 10 days following the release of Wednesday, Ortega gained over 10 million new followers on Instagram,^[3][4] more than doubling her subscriber amount (tweet shown below).

Starting in late November 2022, multiple posts about Ortega went viral on Twitter and other social media. For example, on November 30th, Twitter^[5] user @upblissed posted a Wojak Comic about Ortega that gained over 13,400 retweets and 159,000 likes in one week (shown below, left). On December 2nd, 2022, Twitter^[6] user @frenchmarlboro posted a photograph of Ortega that gained over 5,100 retweets and 90,300 likes in four days (shown below, right).

Reputation

On social media, Ortega has notably supported the Black Lives Matter movement, ^[7] anti-gun laws^[8] and has spoken vocally on other social and political issues. She also voiced support for abortion rights, both through her posts^[9] and by putting links to Planned Parenthood in the "About" section of her social media profiles.

Personal Life

Jenna Ortega was born on September 27th, 2002, in Coachella Village. She is of Mexican and Puerto Rican ancestry and has five siblings.
