Jason Silva

About

Jason Silva is a television personality, filmmaker and public speaker known for hosting the National Geographic reality series Brian Games and the YouTube web series Shots of Awe. Silva often speaks about philosophy, emerging technologies and futurism, including the concept of the technological singularity.

Career

In 2005, Silva was cast as a presenter on the television channel Current TV where he was a host and producer for 5 years. On April 12th, 2012, The Atlantic^[6] published an article about Silva titled "A Timothy Leary for the Viral Video Age." In June 2012, Silva premiered a video titled "Radical Openess" at the TEDGlobal conference, in which Silva performs a monologue about creativity, technology and the Richard Dawkins' concept of memes (shown below, left). In 2013, he was cast as the host of the reality show Brain Games on the National Geographic Channel, which explores various topics in neuroscience, psychology and cognition (shown below, right).

Online History

On March 16th, 2012, Know Your Meme published an interview with Silva, in which he discussed a variety of topics, including the technological singularity, Internet memes, psychedelic drugs and virtual reality. On April 9th, 2013, Silva appeared as a guest on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast (shown below).

Shots of Awe

On May 22nd, 2013, Silva launched the "Shots of Awe" YouTube^[1] channel as part of the Discovery Digital Networks TestTube, which features weekly monologue videos of Silva rapidly discussing various topics in science, technology and philosophy. That day, the channel posted a video titled "Awe," in which Silva passionately expresses his appreciation for the experience of feeling inspired (shown below).

On September 10th, an episode titled "Existential Bummer" was uploaded to the channel, which explores how to emotionally confront the impermanence of existence (shown below, left). Within two years, the video gained over 2.9 million views and 1,800 comments. On September 2nd, 2015, the channel reposted a Facebook video of Silva holding a baby while expressing various musing about the miracle of human life (shown below, right).
