Online History

On September 7th, 2010, Jaclyn Hill joined YouTube. Her channel has gathered over 5.9 million subscribers in nine years. On December 3rd, 2011, Hill uploaded her first video titled, "Kim Kardashian Holiday Makeup tutorial" (shown below). The video has gained over 751,000 views and 9,700 likes in eight years.

On August 11th, 2012, Hill uploaded "Smokey Cat Eye Tutorial" which became her most popular video garnering over 15.8 million views in seven years (shown below, left). On July 11th, Hill uploaded a video with Kim Kardashian which gained over 10.5 million views in two years (shown below, right).

Lipstick Line

On May 30th, 2019, Jaclyn Hill launched Jaclyn Cosmetics which consists of 20 nude lipsticks. On June 8th, RawBeautyKristi uploaded a bad review of the lipsticks (shown below). The video gained over 2.2 million views and 93,000 likes in three days.

After finding out that her lipsticks were gritty, moldy and covered in hair from customer complaints, Jaclyn Hill^[2] tweeted, "My team and I are working very hard on finding out EXACTLY what is causing the “grittiness & bumpy texture” on some of my lipsticks. I am so sorry to see some of you dissatisfied with my product. I will make it right for you & learn from this mistake! That’s a promise❤️" (shown below, left). The tweet gained over 11,600 likes in three days. The same day, She^[2] retweeted a customer who found something stringy in her lipstick and said, "If any of you are receiving lipsticks like this…. please know that this is NOT hair! My factory used brand new white gloves to do quality control & they shed all over my product!😡 We switched to rubber gloves 2 days ago & will make sure this never happens again" (shown below, right). The tweet gained over 12,500 likes in three days.

On June 8th, rumors circulated that her products were just very old. Twitter user @Kiki_the_tiki^[5] tweeted a picture of Dr.Phil on Lipstick saying, "Jaclyn hill’s new lipsticks have more hair than Dr. Phil…" (shown below, left). The tweet gained over 1,100 likes and 200 retweets in three days. The next day, @GhostOfKas^[6] posted a meme explaining to my mom tweet regarding the drama (shown below, right). The tweet garnered over 1,800 likes and 400 retweets in two days.

Other YouTubers began posting negative reviews of the lipstick. On June 10th, Brianna Fox uploaded a video titled, "I FOUND HAIR IN MY JACLYN HILL COSMETICS LIPSTICK" (shown below). The video gained over 141,000 likes in a day.

On June 11th, Jaclyn Hill^[4] tweeted, "I plan on breaking my silence and addressing the issues regarding my lipsticks very soon. I have been working hard to gather all of the facts and details so I can give you accurate answers. I appreciate you allowing me time to wrap my head around all of this & investigate" (shown below). The tweet accumulated over 9,700 likes in a few hours.

Reputation

In 2015, Jaclyn Hill collaborated with cosmetics brand Becca which was bought by Estée Lauder. The next year, she released a makeup brush set and, in 2017, an eye shadow palette with Morphe cosmetics.

Personal Life

In August 2009, Jaclyn Hill married drummer, Jon Hill. On May 16th, 2018, Hill^[1] announced their divorce on Instagram (shwon below). The announcement received over 668,000 likes in a year.

On May 7th, 2019, Hill uploaded a Q & A video regarding her new relationship, her struggle with anxiety and addressed any other fan questions (shown below). The video received over 2.6 million views and 99,000 likes in a month.
