Background

Fresh X Reckless originally comprised Travon “T-Daddie” Mitchell (18), David “Deelo” Rayford (19), Jamel "Junyah” Joseph (20), and Terron “TEE” Champagne (21), of which Deelo and Junyah remain in 2022.[1] The band was formed in late 2017, with their first major media appearance coming in the form of a cameo in the 2017 Super Bowl Monster ad, which also featured Iggy Azalea and RiceGum. The video was reuploaded on February 4th, 2018 by TGI, where it gathered over 114,000 likes in four years. (seen below). [2]

The band went on to release the song "Moroseness," the music video of which featured the band's classic synchronized dance moves and footage of deceased artists XXXTENTACION, Mac Miller, Lil Peep, and Juice WRLD. The video was posted to the band's YouTube[3] on December 13th, 2019, where it gathered over 40,000 views in three years (seen below, left). On January 23rd, 2020, the band released an "instructional video" for their then-upcoming track "Drippin So Hard."[4] The video gathered over 10,000 views in two years (seen below, right).

According to a FADER interview from February 13th, 2020, "Each member has a distinct personality and character trait to them (T-Daddie doesn't speak much, Deelo sings about his pinky ring, Junyah talks really fast, TEE never does a flip)."[1] These traits are specifically explored in a December 25th, 2019 upload to Fresh X Reckless's official Instagram, in a post that gathered over 113,000 views in three years (seen below).[5]

On February 27th, 2020, The band did an interview with No Jumper, gathering over 32,000 views on YouTube (seen below).[10]

Sometime between March and April of 2022, the band parted ways with TEE and T-Daddie, leaving only Deelo and Junya in Fresh x Reckless.

'Assemble!'

On March 4th, 2020, Fresh X Reckless uploaded a video titled "TARGET CONCERT!" to their social media pages. The video depicted the band members dancing and singing in a Target. The Instagram[6] and Twitter[7] uploads contained a scene where Deelo sings the word "Assemble," and the band gets down on their hands and knees, and interlocks their legs in order to form a square. They then collectively do a push-up as a mechanical whirr sound plays in the background. The scene can be accessed at the 1:15 timestamp. The Instagram upload gathered over 14,000 views, while the Twitter upload gathered over 840,000 views and 9,000 likes (seen below).

The clip became a meme in the year 2021, with TikToker[8] @hoochiepapa99 posting the clip with a text overlay that read, "The Avengers before destroying a third world country," and gathering over 2.6 million plays and 620,000 likes in ten months (seen below, left). On August 3rd, 2020, TikToker[9] @pink.fourloko posted the video with a text overlay that read, "The 5 different disorders I was diagnosed with coming together to make me absolutely hate my life," gathering over 900,000 plays and 170,000 likes in over four months (seen below, right).

Girl Where You Going / Mmmm-Ah

Deelo and Junya continued to make content under the name Fresh X Reckless. The two went viral on TikTok after they began promoting their new song, "Captain Save Uh Ho (Girl Where You Going)." The first video promoting the song to go viral was posted on December 7th to Deelo's personal TikTok @deelodoitall2.[11] The video showed the two remaining members of the band singing the chorus to their track, with Junya delivering a particularly off-key performance. The video gathered over 2 million plays and 200,000 likes in three weeks (seen below, left). On December 22nd, Deelo responded to a comment asking if they were the new Island Boys by saying that they were not nearly as talented.[12] The video gathered over 900,000 plays and 98,000 likes in a week (seen below, right).
