Fishing With "Oh Dad!" is a fishing YouTuber who began posting videos in March 2020. His content mostly consists of vlog-style fishing content and fishing product reviews. Oh Dad is also known to incorporate Christian messaging and stories throughout his content. In November 2024, TikToker @pudgykindness, also known as KindPenguins, posted a video about his discovery of Oh Dad's channel, which went viral, boosting his channel from around 1,300 subscribers to over 1.3 million subscribers in under a week.

Online History

On March 28th, 2020, YouTuber[1] Fishing With "Oh Dad!" posted his first video, welcoming viewers to his channel and explaining that it's a channel "about fishing," garnering over 23,000 views in four years. He says that he hopes his content can keep kids off the streets and men out of bars.

Oh Dad regularly posted content over the next four years. The majority of his content is vlog-style videos in which he fishes in Arizona, with other videos about fishing gear, etc. also occasionally going up on the channel.

2020 Near-Fatal Injury and Recovery

On December 22nd, 2020, Oh Dad posted a video to YouTube[2] in which he films himself in a neck halo at the hospital. In the video, he explains how he fell off a roof and broke both his wrists, seven ribs, his sternum and his thoracic vertebrae. He claims that he came very close to death.

On January 1st, 2021, he posted a video to YouTube[3] with two nurses thanking them and announcing that he was recovering well. The video ends with scrolling text of the Bible verse Corinthians 15:52.

On January 19th, Oh Dad posted his first video[4] back on the water since his near-fatal accident, garnering over 1,500 views in three years. The YouTuber has continued to regularly post videos since.

November 2024 Channel Boost

On November 20th, 2024, TikToker[5] @pudgykindness posted a video compiling clips of Oh Dad, including the videos of his injury, garnering over 66.4 million views in four days. In the video, the TikToker encourages viewers to go to Oh Dad's channel and "change his life."

Over the next four days, Oh Dad went from 1,300 subscribers to over 1.33 million subscribers.[6]

A day later, Oh Dad posted a video to YouTube[7] in which he reacted to the growth in subscribers. He directly thanks KindPenguins for the help and admits that he was thinking about stopping creating videos until he saw the effect of KindPenguins' video. He also thanks God and talks about how much he loves fishing and loves making videos. He also tells a story about a person who contacted him saying they wanted to end their own life, then saw the TikTok video and gained renewed hope. The video gained over 1.8 million views in four days.

Online Presence

Following his boost in subscribers in November 2024, further content about Oh Dad began appearing on social media. On November 22nd, 2024, X[8] user @positivesideofx reposted the KindPenguins video, garnering over 95,000 likes in three days. On the same day, TikToker[9] @joshahkeala posted a video about Fishing With "Oh Dad!" that gained over 433,000 views in the same span of time.

On November 25th, YouTuber MrBeast commented on an X[10] post by Dexerto claiming that he subscribed to Fishing With "Oh Dad!" garnering over 5,000 likes in around an hour.
