David Firth is an English animator best known for his work on the Salad Fingers series of videos. Firth became a popular animator on Newgrounds and later YouTube with his dark imagery and theming, as well as his unique animation style.

History

Firth was born January 23rd, 1983 in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. He began posting animations on Newgrounds in the early 2000s under the name "Doki."[7] His most famous animation from his time there, "Salad Fingers" episode one, on July 1st, 2004. His YouTube account launched January 18th, 2006,[1] and in 2007, he reposted the video to YouTube, where it gained over 32 million views in 13 years.



During his years on YouTube, he has created multiple other series and popular videos, including "Cream" (shown below, left) and "Spoilsbury Toast Boy" (shown below, right).


Firth also was part of the YouTube comedy duo along with MC Devvo.[2] He also produced shorts for BBC Comedy's website, including Musical Predictions 2009 and the Jerry Jackson series. He also directed the music video for the Flying Lotus song "Fire Is Coming" featuring David Lynch (shown below).


Firth has uploaded to YouTube more sporadically towards the end of the 2010s. On October 31st, 2020, he posted "Sock Six," an entry into his "Sock" series, which began during his days on Newgrounds, gaining over 231,000 views (shown below). He also posts his videos to Fat-pie.com.[4]

Firth has over 1.45 million subscribers on YouTube.[1] He also has over 106,000 followers on Twitter,[3] 70,000 followers on Instagram,[5] 1,300 patrons on Patreon[6] and 18,000 fans on Newgrounds.[7]
