About

Charles Manson was the leader of the Manson Family cult who was convicted of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder of seven people. In late November 2017, Manson died of natural at the age of 83.

Manson Family Crimes

During the late 1960s, Manson started the California-based Manson Family cult. On August 9th, 1969, members of the Manson Family murdered actress Sharon Tate along with four other people at her home in Los Angeles. The following day, Manson ordered the murders of grocer Leno LaBianca and his wife Rosemary, which were carried out by four members of the Manson Family. In 1971, Manson was imprisoned for seven counts of first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit murder.

Online History

On October 6th, 2007, YouTuber eugenmachine uploaded footage of Manson dancing during a prison interview dubbed with the 1970 Manson Family folk rock song "Give Your Love" (shown below).

On December 17th, 2007, YouTuber crusher8576 uploaded a video titled "Charles Manson's Epic Question," in which Manson mumbles incoherently (shown below, left). On July 9th, 2008, YouTuber brunobliss uploaded a video titled "Charles Manson's Epic Answer," in which Manson rapidly makes various bizarre facial expressions before referring to himself as "nobody" during an interview in prison (shown below, right). Within nine years, the video gained over 13.9 million views and 23,400 comments.

On November 9th, 2011, YouTuber Univerbal uploaded a video of Manson dancing during an interview dubbed with the 2011 pop song "Party Rock" by LMFAO (shown below, left). On July 30th, 2013, YouTuber Dale Hensley uploaded a montage of Manson interview clips titled "The Best of Charles Manson" (shown below, right).

On August 6th, 2015, Redditor dogersbenny submitted a "1 like = 1 prayer" image macro of Manson to /r/funny,[4] claiming that Christians were posting it on Facebook as if it were a photo of Jesus (shown below). Prior to being archived, the post gained over 43,500 points (78% upvoted) and 2,500 comments.

Illness and Death

In January 2017, Manson was sent to the Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield, California for gastrointestinal bleeding. On January 6th, TMZ[3] reported that Manson' doctors determined he was "too weak" for surgery. On November 19th, Manson died of natural causes at the Mercy Hospital. The following day, a post titled "Charles Manson Dead After Spending 46 Years Behind Bars" reached the front page of /r/news,[2] gathering more than 69,700 points (87% upvoted) and 8,100 comments within 13 hours. Meanwhile, Twitter user @nopoweradeinusa[5] tweeted "Rip Charles Manson, he taught me it was ok to be weird…", which garnered upwards of 1,100 likes and 240 retweets that day. Also on November 20th, the news sites Metro,[1] The Sun,[6] and Newsweek[7] reported that various internet users were posting photographs of singer Marilyn Manson along with the caption "RIP Charles Manson."
