Boaster is the tag of professional gamer Jake Howlett, best known for playing Counter-Strike and, currently, Valorant with the team Fnatic. Though a successful esports player, he has grown popular outside of the world of esports for being an outspoken fan of K-pop and will often make entrances to matches doing trending dances.

History

Jake "Boaster" Howlett was born on May 25th, 1995, and is of British descent.^[1] He started his career playing Counter-strike, winning his first prize in 2015. He played Counter-strike until 2018^[2] and also played League of Legends in 2020 with the team Excel. The same year, he began playing Valorant, and in 2021, was signed to Fnatic, becoming a professional gamer.

As of August 2023, he is the in-game leader for the Fnatic team, arguably considered the best in the world^[3] (compilation of Boaster's gameplay uploaded by YouTuber Valorant Pro Spotlight shown below).

Online Presence

Boaster has drawn attention both within and without the esports scene. In November 2022, he was notably profiled by NME.^[4]

He is also widely known for his affection of K-pop, and in particular, has gone viral for posting dances to recent songs. On June 22nd, 2021, he posted a video of himself dancing the choreography to "Butter" by BTS to his Twitter account, gaining over 1,100 retweets and 11,000 likes in two years (shown below).

He is known for performing creative and entertaining walkouts at tournaments, and on September 13th, 2022, he danced to "Pop!" by Nayeon upon being introduced at a tournament (shown below), drawing the attention of K-pop news outlet Koreaboo.^[5] He has also danced to "OMG"^[6] by NewJeans, "Do Not Touch" by MiSaMo and "Hare Hare" by Twice as part of his entrances.^[7]

As of August 2023, Boaster has over 120,000 YouTube subscribers,^[8] gained over the course of nine years since he joined on September 3rd, 2014. He also has over 330,000 followers on Twitch^[9] and 394,000 followers on Twitter. ^[10]
