While it's unclear as to when jokes about "People who sort by new" began, it appears to have started on Reddit in March of 2018. One of the earliest popular posts referencing people who sort by new appeared on March 7th, 2018 on /r/me_irl,^[1] gaining over 27,000 upvotes (shown below).

Spread

Many of the original posts making the jokes appeared on /r/me_irl. A post from March 15th, 2018 gained over 50 upvotes (shown below, left). Another post from March 24th gained over 460 upvotes (shown below, right).

After spreading on /r/me_irl, popular posts began appearing on /r/dankmemes and /r/MemeEconomy about people who sort by new. For example, a post using the Because Your Mother Loves Roses meme appeared on /r/MemeEconomy on March 24th, 2018, gaining over 23,000 upvotes (shown below, left). A popular post on /r/dankmemes posted March 26th gained over 16,000 upvotes (shown below, right).
