People Getting Arrested Over Big Boots refers to a series of AI-generated videos of people in extremely oversized boots getting fined and arrested by police for wearing them. Originally created by TikToker @bluweesh, the clips feature humorous arguments over the legality of wearing big boots in public and saw viral spread in early 2024.
Origin
On December 17th, 2023, TikTok[1] user @bluweesh posted a slideshow of AI-generated images of people wearing extremely oversized boots at a supermarket. The video (shown below) received over 80,000 views and 5,500 likes in two months.
On December 27th, 2023, @bluweesh posted an AI-generated video consisting of multiple clips of people wearing oversized boots getting fined by police officers, paired with AI-voiced dialogue between the policemen and the detained. The video (shown below) received over 2.4 million views and 202,000 likes on TikTok[2] in one month.
I haven't done anything wrong, they're just big boots!

In the following month, @bluweesh posted multiple AI-generated videos of people being fined and arrested over wearing extremely oversized boots. Several of the videos went viral: for example, on January 12th, @bluweesh posted a TikTok[3] that garnered over 4.2 million views and 642,000 views in one month (shown below, left). On January 22nd, 2023, @bluweesh posted a video that received over 5.8 million views and 801,000 likes on TikTok[4] in two weeks (shown below).
I'm genuinely confused, they are just big boots.
The videos saw furthers spread online through reposts on Instagram, iFunny[5] and other sites. For example, on February 5th, 2024, X[6] user @AinterShow reposted one of the videos, with the repost garnering over 20 reposts and 140 likes in three days.
