On January 8th, 2019, following a televised address to the nation by Donald Trump about the ongoing government shutdown and situation at the American and Mexican border, Democratic congressional leaders Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi offered a rebuttal to Trump's address (shown below).

Spread

Following the address, Twitter users were quick to poke fun at the appearance of the pair. Many joked that the pair looked like disapproving parents ready to give their child a stern talking-to. For example, Twitter user @AdamWeinstein^[1] made such a joke, gaining over 820 retweets and 4,400 likes (shown below, left). User @NickBarnacle made a similar joke, gaining over 230 retweets and 1,100 likes (shown below, right).

Others made photoshops of the image. User @McJesse posted a photoshop of the pair as Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon from a Saturday Night Live sketch, gaining over 220 retweets and 1,800 likes (shown below, left). User @neontaster photoshopped the pair into famous painting "American Gothic," gaining over 3,500 retweets and 13,000 likes (shown below, right).
