Origin

In January 2013, flight attendant Shawn Kathleen launched the Passenger Shaming Facebook[1] page. The first photo was uploaded to the page on February 8th, featuring a barefoot airline passenger placing their feet in between the seats in front of him (shown below).[2]



Precursors

On June 10th, 2007, the "single topic blog";https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/single-topic-blogs Flights From Hell[7] was created, which contains stories about flight experiences with terrible passengers.



On August 10th, 2010, the single topic blog Going With Eddie[3] was launched, which highlights photos of subway passengers committing various faux pas while riding the train (shown below)

On March 25th, 2013, the news site Today[7] published an article about the Passenger Shaming Facebook page. On October 6th, the Passenger Shaming Instagram[6] feed was created. On September 14th, 2014, BuzzFeed[5] highlighted several notable examples from the Passenger Shaming Facebook page. On September 17th, CNN aired a segment on Passenger Shaming photographs (shown below).



In the coming days, several other news sites published articles about Passenger Shaming, including Yahoo News,[8] Complex,[9] UpRoxx,[10] The Daily Mail[11] and Jezebel.[12]
