Overworked Cats Making Biscuits refers to a series of TikTok videos joking that cats kneading blankets and other soft objects, colloquially known as "making biscuits," are employees of a biscuit-making factory and are gravely overworked, leading their owners to jokingly plead with viewers to stop "ordering biscuits."
Cats are known to rub their paws on or "knead" soft objects when they are happy. This is colloquially known as "making biscuits" among cat owners.[1]
On November 25th, 2022, TikTok[2] user @kunzaiiii posted a sped-up video of their cat kneading a blanket, captioning the video with a plea to viewers to stop "ordering biscuits," as the cat is very overworked. The video gained over 2.4 million likes in six weeks (shown below).
The TikTok spawned many imitators, many of which gained hundreds of thousands of likes on the platform. For example, on December 15th, 2022, TikTok[3] user @aesniah posted a similar video, gaining over 4.1 million likes in three weeks (shown below, left). On December 21st, TikToker[4] @penelope_.may posted a similar video, gaining over 970,000 likes in two weeks (below, right).
The TikToks led some commenters to "demand" more biscuits, thus leading to more videos of this ilk being created. For example, on December 24th, @penelope._may posted a second TikTok of her cat in response to a jokingly "angry" commenter, gaining over 10,000 likes in ten days (shown below, left). The same day, TikTok[5] user @leothecutestlion posted a video that gained over 350,000 likes in two weeks (shown below, right).
