Our Wizard Lies refers to a catchphrase featured in the 2025 Wicked: For Goodfilm, which is a message written in the clouds by the protagonist Elphaba against the Wizard of Oz. The scene became the subject of parodies, recaption memes and Photoshop edits, adding other words or new phrases over Elphaba's cloud message, in early June 2025.

Origin

On June 4th, 2025, a trailer for the Wicked: For Good film was released on X.^[1] One particular moment in the trailer shows protagonist Elphaba flying through a cloud to form the phrase "Our Wizard Lies." The video (seen below) received more than 5.9 million views and 96,000 likes in a day.

Spread

Immediately after the Wicked: For Good trailer was posted, several netizens started to recaption and edit the scene in which Elphaba writes "Our Wizard Lies" in a cloud.

For instance, on June 4th, 2025, X^[2] user @willfulchaos posted a version of the image with the text, "Our Wizard Is A Chop Hoe." The post (seen below) amassed over 848,000 views and 33,000 likes in a day.

On the same day, the X^[3] page @tracklist posted a still image showing the "Our Wizard Lies" scene and other screenshots from the Wicked: For Good trailer. The post (seen below) received roughly 28,000 views and 1,700 likes in a day.
