Orangutan Grabs Man, also known as Orangutan Attacks Man, is a viral video of a man named Hasan Arifin being attacked by an orangutan at an Indonesian zoo called the Kasang Kulim Zoo. In the clip, the guy gets his shirt grabbed by the orangutan after reaching his hands out toward the ape and is then pulled against the cage, twisted sideways and then a small fart can be heard amid the chaos. The video surfaced on Twitter in June 2022 and spread online in the following days.

Origin

On June 6th, 2022, a visitor to the Kasang Kulim Zoo in Indonesia named Hasan Arifin climbed over the fences at the orangutan exhibit to get a closer look at the cages.[1] He reportedly did so while the guards were on a lunch break, ignoring signs written in front of the cages. The first known posting of the video was made on June 6th, 2022, by Twitter[2] user oreoflavoorr, whose video received roughly 817,300 views and 10,800 likes in one day (shown below). The tweet was a reply to Twitter account convomf, which uploads images and videos from Indonesian chatrooms. Therefore, although the man's name is known, it is still unknown where the video was first shared and a potential origin is on Discord or WhatsApp, then shared via the deleted convomf tweet.

Later on June 6th, 2022, the video was reposted by Twitter[3] user neutralizm_ who earned roughly 5.7 million views and 4,600 likes in less than a day. The aforementioned video's high view count was aided by a repost of the video from Twitter[4] user sundaykisseu on June 6th, who received roughly 131,100 likes in less than a day (shown below).

On June 7th, 2022 it was posted to the /r/Unexpected[5] subreddit as well as the /r/Malaysia[6] subreddit. Additionally, going into June 7th, Twitter users started to react to the video en masse, posting memes about the orangutan and the man. For instance, on June 7th, Twitter[7] user enzoriverssss posted a quote retweet of the video that captioned it, "i’m with the orangutan cause he not even supposed to be in there fr," earning roughly 4,200 likes in less than a day (shown below).

On June 7th, 2022, TikToker[8] julianadamh posted a video that showed him and his friends reenacting the video, earning roughly 26.3 million plays and 3.2 million likes in less than a day (shown below).
