About

Open The Noor, also known as Open Na Noor, is a viral video taken on a Ring camera that shows a presumably drunk old man at a front door saying "open the noor" when trying to say "open the door." The video was featured in a parody news segment on the YouTube channel Outside Edition. The segment was about Only in Ohio memes and the "Open The Noor" video was followed by a young man saying, "I think it's about time I get the f--k out of Ohio. It's eight in the morning. I'm just trying to have my morning coffee." The "Open The Noor" video went viral on TikTok in December 2022, inspiring a TikTok sound, recreations and photo slideshows that imagined Breaking Bad's Walter Jr. saying the phrase.

Origin

On October 30th, 2022, TikToker[1] samantha_roseeeee posted a video taken by her front door's Ring camera that showed a presumably drunk stranger trying to get into her house by saying "Open the noor" at the camera. TikToker samantha_roseeeee wrote in text overlay, "pov: you're home alone and wake up to this at 5 am… wryd??" Over the course of 22 days, the video received roughly 436,300 plays and 28,000 likes (shown below).

On December 12th, 2022, the Youtube[2] channel Outside Edition (a parody version of news outlet Inside Edition) uploaded a video titled, "Normal Roller Coaster in Ohio..💀 (Only in Ohio)," in which the creator pretended that "Only in Ohio" videos were submitted to the parody news station by civilians. At the 0:25-minute mark, Outside Edition showed TikToker samantha_roseeeee's "Open The Noor" video and followed the clip with a young man saying, "I think it's about time I get the f--k out of Ohio. It's eight in the morning. I'm just trying to have my morning coffee." Over the course of 10 days, the video received roughly 21,200 views (shown below).

On December 11th, 2022, (the day before the aforementioned YouTube video was uploaded), the creator of Outside Edition, Jimmy Wells, uploaded his imagined "Open The Noor" segment to TikTok[3] with his account jimmywells96. Over the course of 11 days, the video received roughly 12.1 million plays and 1.4 million likes.

Spread

Following jimmywells96's viral TikTok,[3] multiple creators started using the video's sound. For instance, on December 16th, 2022, TikToker[4] ie_das reanimated the video, gaining roughly 293,000 plays and 25,000 likes in six days (shown below, left). On December 19th, 2022, TiKToker[5] greenmonkemusic posted their own reanimation, gaining roughly 250,300 plays and 23,200 likes in three days (shown below, right).

On December 18th, 2022, TikToker[6] africanhamburger made a video that joked about Breaking Bad character Walter Jr. saying the phrase due to the "Open The Noor" man's auditory resemblance to the character. Over the course of four days, the video received roughly 6,300 plays (shown below). Three days later, on December 20th, 2022, TikToker[7] chris.browns.dirty.bowl posted a photo slideshow with three Walter Jr. photos, essentially making the same comparison and joke. In one day, the slideshow received roughly 1.3 million plays and 93,700 likes.

"Open The Noor" videos continued to go viral on TikTok[8][9] as others recreated the Ring video or made other reanimations of the scene with Walter Jr.'s likeness.
