Only Do What Your Heart Tells You is a Wojak comic format where a Princess Diana quote, "Only do what your heart tells you," is shown above an image of a Wojak character, often Yes Chad, agreeing to do what an image of a heart tells him to. The meme was first posted to Instagram in June 2021 and became increasingly popularized over the next year as people photoshopped the caption on the heart and the Wojak character.

Origin

On June 13th, 2021, Instagram[1] page dank.notturno posted a meme using an image of the Princess Diana quote, "Only do what your heart tells you," on top of an image of a Yes Chad Wojak looking at a heart captioned, "bip bip bip," meant to be heartbeat sounds, the Wojak saying, "Ok," garnering over 1,400 likes in a year (shown below). The meme gained viral spread on Instagram over the following days and was reposted to /r/memes[2] on June 14th, garnering over 14,900 upvotes in a year.

The meme became increasingly popular throughout 2021, inspiring new variations, mostly on Instagram and Reddit. On July 5th, 2021, Instagram[3] page ireallylikewatermelons posted a meme using the format that garnered over 11,000 likes in a year. On July 23rd, Instagram[4] page worstigaccount posted a version replacing the Chad Wojak with another Wojak and the caption under the heart to be about drinking Four Loko and listening to Limp Bizkit garnering over 7,200 likes in a year (shown below). On August 14th, a user posted a new version of the meme to /r/dankmemes,[5] garnering over 8,200 upvotes in a year.

By 2022, the meme started to see schizoposting variants. On January 17th, 2022, Instagram[6] user trashcanpaul posted a version of the meme about stripping copper wire from the house, garnering over 131,000 likes in 10 months (shown below, left). On March 15th, Instagram[7] user 6.memes.9 posted another schizopost version of the meme, garnering over 20,400 likes in eight months (shown below, right).

On November 12th, Isntagram[8] user trashcanpaul posted another version of the meme where the heart tells the Chad Wojak to put an extra McRib in the freezer, garnering over 61,000 likes in five days (shown below).
