About

Only at Miller Grove is a catchphrase used in various memes and image macros to express either the absurdity of a location or the exaggeration of absurdity. Based on an image of a high school student reading, presumably at Miller Grove high school in Georgia, the phrase serves a similar nonsensical and recursive style as My Man Kevin on the Ledge and Shit.

Origin

The exact time of origin of the meme is unknown. On March 9th, 2020, an anonymous 4chan user posted the original image in the /pol/, [1] where some made racist comments about the intent of the image. The image, however, comes from a since-deleted Instagram Story reshared by Instagram user @atl.meraa. It features the caption, "Dis nigga ahh reading a book only at miller grove" (shown below).

Spread

Two days later, on March 11th, 2020, Twitter [2] @MODE279 shared the image, with the caption, "this is hilarious." The post received more than 29,000 likes and 4,200 retweets in less than one year (shown below, left).

Over the next few months, the phrase grew as a meme alongside the photograph. Many used the image to comment on the situation's absurdity, adding another level of indecipherability with the phrase. For example, on June 26th, 2020, YouTuber Bubbel posted a video of a person refusing to wear their shoes because they did not want to scuff them. They titled the video "Only At Miller Grove 😂😂." The post received more than 4,000 views in less than six months (shown below, right).

Others posted recursive variations of the meme, adding several comments overlaid onto the original meme. These comments usually exaggerate how absurd the boy reading is or how funny the commenter finds the image (shown below). On October 19th, Ebaumsworld[3] published a collection of Miller Grove memes.
