One Mexican Down

One Mexican Down is a viral TikTok sound and catchphrase based on a parody video about a Karen that "hunts down" Mexicans. The viral video was posted on YouTube in September 2022 but only became popularized on TikTok in June 2024 as people started to use the quote "One Mexican down" in comedy skit videos and other memes.

Origin

On September 23rd, 2022, the YouTube^[1] channel Tomorrow's Teachings uploaded a parody video titled "Karen Hunts Down Mexicans, You Won't Believe What She Does!" In a particular moment of the video (seen below), a woman portraying a Karen looks through a sniper scope at a Mexican immigrant, saying the line, "You're not coming to my country. Not on my watch." She then shoots the man and says, "One Mexican down." The video amassed more than 624,000 views and 12,000 likes in two years.

Spread

On May 6th, 2024, TikTok^[2] user @dinggulberry posted a video using the "one Mexican down" line in a parody skit with Fortnite characters. The post (seen below, left) amassed over 1.9 million plays and inspired more than 8,000 other videos on the platform in two months.

For instance, on July 15th, TikTok^[3] user @pbandjammyy posted a video in which she gets shot after giving "the white boy a chance and meet his mom." The póst (seen below, right) garnered over 8 million plays and 1.8 million likes in five days.
