About
One Hand Water Challenge is a series of video parodies mocking a viral video of Donald Trump drinking a glass of water with one hand during the June 2020 Tulsa Trump Rally. The gesture was initially made by Trump during his speech to combat mocking photos and videos of himself drinking with two hands during the his Westpoint Commencement Speech but, following the rally, many Twitter users uploaded a video of themselves drinking with one hand using the hashtags #onehandwaterchallenge or #onehandchallenge.
Origin
On June 20th, 2020, following the Tulsa rally, Twitter user and congressional candidate @DeAnna4Congress tweeted a video of the moment that crowds cheered for Trump as he drank from a glass with one hand. The tweet, captioned, "The degenerate left claimed President Trump had health issues after drinking water with 2 hands. Today he drank with one and tossed the glass to the side! GREATEST. PRESIDENT. EVER," received over 53,000 likes and 36,700 retweets in three days.
The next day, House candidate and Twitter user @tedlieu posted a video parodying Trump's viral video in his first campaign ad (shown below). The video acquired over 251,800 likes and 48,100 retweets in two days.
Spread
On June 21st, 2020, actor and Twitter user @hwinkler4real posted a video of himself drinking from a glass using one hand and accumulated over 259,200 likes and 34,500 retweets in two days (shown below).
The next day, Twitter users continued to post videos of themselves drinking from a glass. For example, Twitter user @alfrehn tweeted, "Me doing the #OneHandChallenge #onehandwaterchallenge" and included a video which gained over 3,500 views in a day (shown below). Fast Company[1] published an article on the trend.
