One Copy of Doom Eternal / Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Please is a series of images showing different characters purchasing these video games at a store. In the memes, characters purchasing Animal Crossing: New Horizons are usually burly and buff characters from mature series, while those purchasing Doom Eternal are cute small characters from wholesome, kid-friendly series. The trend was prompted by the shared released date of the games and is a development of Tickets to Joker and Doomguy and Isabelle memes.

Origin

On January 25, 2020, Tumblr user Snekfricker^[1] uploaded an two-panel image showing Doom protagonist Doomguy purchasing a copy of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, while characters from the latter asked for a copy of Doom: Eternal. The post gathered 24,000 likes in the following three weeks (shown below).

Spread

In the following days, the trend spread to Twitter, Reddit and other social media platforms. On January 29, 2020, Redditor^[2] ollybros shared an image of several Doomguy versions inquiring about a copy of Animal Crossing, gaining over 5,200 upvotes in the three weeks (shown below, left). On February 9, 2020, Twitter user @MoozuaMary^[3] uploaded an image of Isabelle purchasing a copy of Doom Eternal, with the image receiving over 13,100 likes and 3,300 retweets in ten days (shown below, center). Days later, on February 13, 2020, Twitter user @popzotz^[4] uploaded an image of another Isabelle purchasing a copy of Doom Eternal, with the tweet garnering over 56,200 likes and 15,000 retweets in one week (shown below, right).

On February 16, 2020, Twitter user Ultrashroomz^[5] shared a video edit of Isabelle purchasing and playing a copy of Doom Eternal which using the footage from both Doom and Super Smash Brothers Ultimate. The edit received over 60,000 likes and 19,400 retweets in two days (shown below).

Doomguy and Isabelle is a fan art trend that started in October of 2019. Pieces tend to feature both characters paired in cute and/or gory situations or changing costumes and jobs. The trend came about as a result of Doom Eternal's delayed-release to March 20th, 2020, the same day as Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
