On November 25th, 2020, X^[1] user @giganticbuddha posted a piece of artwork depicting Tomoko from WataMote crying while browsing through Soyjaks on the computer, captioned with a speech bubble, "Once I pick the perfect soyjak to portray you as your life is fucking over." The post gained over 8,600 likes in just over three years (shown below).

The meme became a popular source for redraws and editsover the following years. On February 16th, 2023, Redditor u/ContributionOk4879 posted an edit to /r/ShitPostCrusaders,^[2] writing, "I'm getting this vibe from the Part 9 Protagonist, prove me wrong," garnering over 2,500 upvotes in a year (shown below, left). On September 17th, X^[3] user @pixel_axel posted a redraw featuring Duke Nukem in place of Tomoko, garnering over 2,100 likes in six months (shown below, left).

On December 4th, Tumblr^[4] user ramblinseahorsey posted a redraw of the meme referencing The Amazing Digital Circus, garnering over 14,500 notes in three months (shown below).
