"On My Way to Steal Yo Girl" is an expression which is often used to caption images of characters using odd means of transportation or dressed in flamboyant clothing. The phrase is used in a similar fashion to the expression Swiggity Swooty, I'm Coming For That Booty.

Origin

On July 27th, 2010, the song "Bottoms Up" by Trey Songz was released, which contains the lyric "it's Mister Steal Yo Girl" (shown below).

On October 16th, 2011, YouTuber Cyanide Sandwich uploaded a video titled "On my way to steal yo girl," in which he is shown driving in a convertible while wearing a skull-and-crossbones banana (shown below).

On March 22nd, 2013, BuzzFeed[5] highlighted 20 examples of "On My Way to Steal Your Girl" animated GIFs taken from Tumblr, citing the Trey Songz track as the inspiration for the meme. On July 25th, 2013, CollegeHumor[1] published a compilation article featuring other examples sourced from Tumblr blogs. On September 15th, the novelty Twitter account @YaBoyLilB tweeted an image of Kermit the Frog on a scooter with the caption "On my way to steal yo girl," receiving over 4,100 retweets and 2,400 favorites as of December 2014.[2]


In 2014, the hashtag #omy2syg was popularized by Instagram user @Splurt.[4] On April 14th, the Splurt TV YouTube channel uploaded a video featuring two women balancing jugs on their heads with the "#omw2syg" and "splurt" written on the front of each (shown below, left). On October 28th, 2014, the Mad Decent YouTube channel uploaded the hip hop track "#OMW2SYG (Swiggity Swooty)" by Splurt (shown below, right).
