About

OMG You People Can't Do Anything is a catchphrase that originates from an October 2022 post by X user @Cicington in which they respond to someone talking about how Halloween costume planning is stressful for people with ADHD with, "Omg you people can't do anything." The phrase came to be used as a petty remark for people talking about how their various medical conditions affect their ability to do something, even as screenshots of @Cicington's tweet were used as templates for exploitable memes.

Origin

On October 30th, 2022, X / Twitter user @Cicington quoted a post that read, "we don't talk enough about how stressful Halloween costumes are for the ADHD community," with, "Omg you people cant do anything." The post gathered over 120,000 likes before @Cicington's account was deleted (seen below).

Spread

The catchphrase came to be used to react to people with ADHD talking about their difficulties with completing minor tasks, as seen in an April 21st, 2023, post by X[1] user @offbeatorbit that gathered over 1,000 likes in a year (seen below, left).

On June 20th, X[2] user @m8ss3ducti0n used the post to quote a tweet that read, "'Ice breakers' and 'team-building activities' are always done in a way that harms Neurodivergent people," gathering over 72,000 likes in 11 months (seen below, right).

On November 11th, 2023, X[3] user @uncledoomer made a post using the catchphrase, gathering over 2,000 likes in seven months (seen below, left), while a May 21st, 2024, post saw @tylerduran21[4] replying with the catchphrase and gathering over 6,000 likes in three days (seen below, right).

Various internet users have also criticized the post for supposedly encouraging people to dismiss how some illnesses make seemingly simple tasks difficult, as seen in a thread posted by X[5] user @steelydante on May 20th, 2024. However, the user concedes that some internet users were able to overcome their "learned helplessness" thanks to the joke.
