Memes about Wilde's salad dressing began appearing shortly after the article was published. For example, Twitter user @trinawatters^[2] posted a picture of Smudge the Cat, gaining over 410 retweets and 7,800 likes in four days (shown below).

As the story was widely reported on and went viral in the following days, some speculated what could have made Wilde's salad so special. It was suspected that her salad came from a recipe she once shared with the Food Network.^[5] After a day of jokes and the internet wondering what could have possibly made the salad dressing so special, Wilde appeared to post the recipe for it, which was taken from the Nora Ephron book Hearburn.^[3]
