“Old Headshots Day” is an Internet theme day that was observed in April but rose to prominence on April 26th, 2018. On this day, actors share an old headshot, which are photographs of themselves that actors use for auditions, via social networking sites and image-sharing communities.

Origin

The earliest available example of the use of "Old Headshots Day" and the hashtag "#OldHeadshotDay was postd on April 12th, 2016 by Facebook [1] user Michael Mararian. He captioned the post, "Came across some old head shots from when I was an "actor" for ten minutes in the early 90's. I don't know, what's better? Shit-kicking country Mike or relaxing business Mike? #oldheadshotday." The post (shown below) received more than 230 reactions and 50 comments in two years.

On April 26th, 2018, users on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter shared images of old headshots (examples below).



The following day, on April 27th, celebrities began posting their headshots as well. For example, on April 27th, Emma Watson[2] shared her old headshot with the caption "I’m REALLY glad this picture of me wearing a baker’s hat exists! #oldheadshotday." The post (shown below) received more than 4.3 million likes in three days.

Several media outlets wrote about the celebrity posts, including NBC,[3] Teen Vogue,[4] The Daily Dot, [5] E![6] and more.
