About
Okay So There's a 56 Year Old Woman Here refers to an image of an older woman sitting on a bed with a Snapchat text caption reading the aforementioned catchphrase, portraying confusion about the lady's presence. The image was a screenshot of a viral video in which two boys, seemingly at a house party, confront the woman. The clip first surfaced in 2021, spreading on TikTok and Twitter / X. Going into the mid-2020s, predominantly in 2024, the screenshot from the video spread as a reaction image online and was used to joke about aging and partaking in youth subcultures and interests as an older person.
Origin
Currently, the earliest known upload of the video online was shared by iFunnier [1] @cowsaflying on April 6th, 2021. In three years, the video received only seven smiles. Its original origin is unknown.
The video went largely viral three months later, on July 19th, when TikToker[2] @onomatopoeia420 shared it, gaining over 3.7 million plays and 324,600 likes in three years (shown below). At the time of both uploads, the video was already low-quality.
Spread
In the following months, the video received more viral uploads, like one repost shared by iFunnier[3] @lowqualitycontent on September 30th, 2021, receiving over 21,900 smiles in three years.
Memes using the screenshot of the video surfaced in 2022. For instance, an early viral example was shared by X[4] user @fartshopping on June 20th, 2022, reading, "The billboard charts rn," gaining over 7,000 likes in two years (shown below).
A few months later, on October 20th, X[5] user @normalmadeline tweeted the image, captioning it, "Laura Dern in Midnights visual album," receiving over 4,900 likes in two years (shown below).
In 2023, viral usage of the meme persisted on X.[6] Non-viral usage also surfaced on other platforms like Tumblr.[7]
In 2024, usage of the image became increasingly viral. For instance, on January 31st, X[8] user @brokebackstan tweeted the image, captioning it, "me (late 20s) when i hang out with my early 20s oomfs," gaining over 42,000 likes in nine months (shown below).
By late 2024, the meme's usage became highly prevalent and, in turn, amassed discourse concerning its usage. For instance, on October 5th, X[9] user @cabby tweeted the image, writing, "not to be vulnerable on main but whenever i see this pic being used i feel like im getting shot in the back of my head 100 times," receiving over 94,000 likes in two days (shown below).
