Buff Weeb is the online handle of TikToker and bodybuilder Pedro Beurlen, best known for his vidoes in which he, dressed in a maid costume, performs feats of strength, lip-synching the phrase "Ohayo, Onii-chan," Videos of the bodybuilder received viral spread online starting in February 2021.

Origin

On July 13th, 2019, bodybuilder Pedro Beurlen posted his first video on his TikTok account @buff_weeb,^[1] a Storm Area 51 meme that received 17,000 views and 940 likes in two years.

On November 14th, 2020, @buff_weeb^[2] posted the first clip in which he wore a maid outfit, doing JoJo poses (shown below, left). The video received over and 121,000 views and 20,600 likes in nine months. On December 8th, 2021, buff_weeb posted his first viral TikTok,^[3] a WAP dance that received over 752,000 views and 140,000 likes in eight months (shown below, center). On February 12th, @buff_weeb^[4] posted the first video that used the "Ohayo, onii-chan!" sound effect. In the video, @buff_weeb takes a door off hinges, flexes his right arm and lip syncs the phrase. The video received over 23.6 million views and 3.8 million likes in six months (shown below, right).

The origin of the sound effect is currently unknown. In late December 2020, the sound effect was used in a viral video of a middle-aged man utilizing Snapchat's cartoon filter (origin unknown, reupload shown below).^[5]

In the following weeks, the video was widely circulated online; for example, a February 17th YouTube^[6] reupload received over 4.2 million views in six months.

In the following weeks, @buff_weeb posted multiple videos styled in the similar manner to his February 12th video, wearing a maid outfit, performing various fits of strength, making anime references and lip-syncing "Ohayo, onii-chan." For example, on February 25th, @buff_weeb posted a TikTok^[7] in which he exercised by raising two doors. The video received over 2 million views and 1.3 million likes in six months (shown below, left).

Multiple videos by @buff_weeb received viral spread through reposts on social media. For example, on May 12th, YouTube^[8] user Djancoek Gaming posted a compilation of @buff_weeb's TikToks that received over 400,000 views in three months (shown below).

In the following months, the sound effect appeared in similarly-styled videos by other users on TikTok and other platforms. For example, on March 24th, TikTok^[9] user fanxiaofan posted a video that received over 2 million views and 294,000 likes in five months.
