On May 13th, 2017, Twitter user @daviddeweil^[1] tweeted "Oh you love your mom? Name three of her albums." The tweet (shown below) mocked musical gatekeeping or elitism by substituting a musical artist for "your mom." @davidedeweil received more than 23,000 retweets and 48,000 likes.

Shortly after @daviddeweil's tweet went viral, people started tweeting "album titles at him," i.e send common motherly expressions as if they were album titles. He received more than 1,300 response to his tweet.

That day Twitter^[5] user @drnzy retweeted the original tweet and responded: "1. There's food at home 2. I'm not one of your little friends (went 3x platinum) 3. I'll give you something to cry about." The tweet (shown below) received more than 13,300 retweets and 19,000 likes.

Throughout the day, people continued to tweet their mom's "albums."One tweet from @CTowersCBS^[2] (shown below, left), which read "'I'm not going to say it again' is her best work," received more than 200 retweets and 1,000 likes. Another by @blackismy^[3] (shown below, right), which featured several albums by "Your mom," received more than 2,500 retweets and 5,800 likes in two days.

On May 14th, Twitter published a Moments page, archiving some of the most popular posts and responses to the tweet.^[4]

October 2019 Resurgence

In the following years, the snowclone maintained moderate popularity on Twitter and other platforms. For example, on April 19th, 2019, Twitter user @rylrat tweeted "Oh you like music? Name one song," with the tweet receiving over 6,800 retweets and 27,300 likes in six months (shown below, left).^[7] On August 14th, 2019, Instagram user yourfrienddoge posted an Ironic Doge Meme based on the snowclone, receiving over 7,700 likes in two months (shown below, right).^[8]

On September 12th, 2019, Twitter user @ULTRAGLOSS tweeted "men be like oh you like movies???? name all of them," with the tweet receiving over 20,000 retweets and 118,800 likes.^[9] On October 4th, 2019, Twitter user @goodbeanalt copied @rylrat's tweet, with the post receiving over 15,000 retweets and 80,000 likes in one month (shown below, right).^[10] On the same day Twitter user @jennifermerr posted another meme utilizing the snowclone, receiving over 400 retweets and 6,000 likes in the same period,^[11] with several more notable variations being posted prior to October 18th.

On October 18th, 2019, Twitter user @gothicmane posted another meme based on the catchphrase, receiving over 83,000 retweets and 323,000 likes in one week (shown below).^[11]

In the following days, the snowclone format gained significant popularity on Twitter.

October 2020 Resurgence

On July 25th, 2020, YouTube user PAB uploaded^[12] a humorous video based on a Discord conversation between himself and another user. In the conversation, Discord user Rodimus writes, "oh you love jojo? name every jojo character," with PAB proceeding to list every major and minor named character appearing in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga series. The video (shown below), set to "E1M1" from Doom soundtrack, received over 1.2 million views in four month.

The video inspired a subtrend in which users fulfilled a request to name every single instance of something, with the videos usually being recorded in Discord. On August 19th, 2020, YouTube^[13] user Phantom Thief Irwin posted the earliest known derivative meme based on the format, gaining over 1.4 million views in three months (shown below, left). The subformat did not achieve its viral point until September 15th, when YouTube^[14] user Memetastic posted an Among Us meme that received over 5.4 million views in two months (shown below, right). The video featured "Paralyzer" by Finger Eleven which then became associated with the format.

Following the viral spread of Memetastic's and the previous videos, the subformat gained viral popularity online, particularly on YouTube and Twitter.
