Oh Shit, That's Deep refers to a close-up image of an orc unit from 2003 video game Warcraft III paired with the quote. While the image originally circulated on the Russian social network VK as "ух сука со смыслом", the image macro gained moderate popularity on Reddit in February 2019.

Origin

Starting in August 2018, a close-up image of Warcraft III unit Peon, paired with the caption "ух сука со смыслом" ("oh shit, that's deep") was circulated among Russian users on VK, 2ch and other online platforms. On July 5th, 2018, an anonymous 2ch user made the first known post using the uncaptioned image as a reaction (shown below, right).[1] On August 29th, Twitter user @EGORKRIDSOSET posted the earliest known captioned version of the image as a reaction to another post.[2]

Spread

Starting in September 2018, the image macro gained significant spread on VK, where it was circulated by several communities such as FTP.[3] On September 27th, 2018, Memepedia reported on the spread of the meme.[4]



On February 13th, Reddit user Bragunetzki posted the image macro with a translated caption to /r/dankmemes subreddit,[5] where it gained over 66,000 upvotes in one month.



In the following weeks, the image saw moderate use on Reddit, including notable posts on /r/dankmemes,[6] /r/me_irl[7] and /r/deepfriedmemes.[8]
